For businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets and off-the-shelf tools
CodeFish builds custom software for Australian businesses that have outgrown their spreadsheets and off-the-shelf tools. Web platforms, mobile apps, and AI that does a specific job.
We start with what the work costs you today — the hours, the double handling, the errors — and build the thing that removes it. If software is not the answer, we say so before you spend money finding out.
How long has CodeFish been doing this?
Who is CodeFish, and why do you only build software now?
Brothers Sim and Jake Penzo started CodeFish in Adelaide in 2010. Since then the studio has shipped over 150 products for clients from REDARC and CSIRO to the Government of South Australia.
For a long time we built almost anything: apps, platforms, hardware, sensors, 3D-printed parts. We were good at it. But the hardware work pulled one way and the software work pulled another. In 2026 we stopped selling work we were good at, to focus on what compounds for our clients: software and AI that take cost and manual work out of a business.
That same focus is what we bring to your project: we help you find where the real value is, so your budget goes into the work that pays you back.
Today the strategists, designers and engineers who scope your project sit in the same Adelaide studio as the people who build it. Most clients come to us with one process that eats their week, such as quoting, rostering or reporting. Many stay to fix the next one.
How does CodeFish run a project?
Four rules we hold ourselves to on every job.
We price the problem first
Before we design anything, we work out what the problem costs you in hours and dollars. That number decides what is worth building.
We tell you when not to build
If a spreadsheet fix, an off-the-shelf tool or a process change will do the job, we say so. You do not pay us to find out the hard way.
We prove it before you commit
We test the idea with your team early, with prototypes they can click through, so the build starts on something that already works for them.
We stay after launch
We support what we ship, fix what breaks and keep improving it as your business changes. Most of our clients have been with us for years.
Who will actually work on my project?
Everyone here works on client projects, in our Adelaide studio. The people who scope your work are the people who build it, so you are never handed to a delivery team you did not meet at the pitch.
Founders
Since 2010, Sim and Jake have guided over 150 products from first idea to launch, for businesses like REDARC, CSIRO and the Government of South Australia. That experience is what they bring to your project: knowing which ideas pay for themselves, which ones stall, and what to build first so the money comes back soonest. They stay on every account, so the people who made the call are the ones you hold to it.

Operations
Federico and Ryan find where your business is losing time and money, and where AI will actually help. They map how work moves through your team, measure what the manual steps cost, and turn it into a scoped plan with a price on it. Once the build starts, they keep it on time and on budget, so you always know what is done, what is next and what it costs.

Design
Anthony makes sure your team actually uses what you pay for. That means sitting with the people doing the work, testing early versions with them, and turning how they really work into screens they can pick up on day one. The result replaces the spreadsheet and the workarounds instead of sitting beside them.

Engineering
Andrew, Talha and Sam get your systems talking to each other and take the manual work out. They connect your ERP, accounting and job tools, automate the double handling and build the software your team runs on every day. After launch they own it too, fixing issues, keeping it secure and adding to it as your business changes.

What do I get in writing?
The commercial terms, stated plainly. The same ones that appear on every project we quote.
You own the code
The codebase, the repository, and the IP are yours outright. No licence fees, no vendor lock-in, and no ongoing dependency on us unless you want one.
A defined scope before we start
We agree what's being built, what it costs and what's out of scope before work begins. If something changes, you see the cost before we do it.
A one-year warranty
Every build ships with documentation, a clean handover, and a twelve-month warranty. Support carries on well after launch.
Your data stays yours
We are Adelaide-based and Australian-owned. Where you have privacy or compliance obligations, we design so your data never leaves an environment you control and is never used to train someone else's model.
